We conducted the comparison review between the Nokia N82, N95, Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot, and the Samsung SGH-G800 to find out which phone has the best camera. We decided not to just do that, as not everyone will just use the camera, and our readers will want to know which is the best PHONE to use.
We started off with the box, where the K850i took advantage for the simplest and most creative retail package presentation, but both NSeries boxes stood in last place for using the same boring design.
We battled the N82 against the K850i as they both are candybar in form factor, where the K850i won our choice for its details all over the place, which are quite innovative I must say. On the sliders side, the N95 did better than the G800 for its camera keys and keypad in general, especially for not being a one-piece material keypad such as the G800 one.
If we were to compare the N95 and the K850i, the latter one would have been chosen for its cosmetic details that we find in no other phone.
The K850i once again wins our hearts on the camera buttons side as it has dedicated camera buttons, as well as an electronic lens cover. The G800 has a huge block covering the camera, which isn't just ugly, but adds weight as well.
Not surprisingly, the K850i's memory card and SIM card slot is the best of them all, in the Nokia E90 style which pops-out at the bottom of the device, although you cannot remove the battery or read the IMEI number.
The N82 has the largest battery capacity with 1200mAh.
Unlike the K850i and the G800, both NSeries have GPS. Furthermore, both the N95 and N82 have geo-tagging capabilities thanks to the GPS receiver.
Once again the N95 makes up for all its downsides, and makes a recovery for its large display, loud speakers NGage gaming platform, flash video playback capability, and most importantly, S60 software platform, which the N82 has it as well.
On the connectivity side, the N82 is the king for the GPS, WLAN, HSDPA, built-in geo-tagging, USB and Bluetooth. The G800 has extremely fast HSDPA, while K850i's Bluetooth is a third faster than all the other devices.
On the camera capture side, the N82 is alsothe best for the single-object in incandescent light test. This test was conducted with the following set-up: a cap hanging on a wall inside my bedroom, with the light bulb lit. The N82 also owned the “high-up medium distance test” which comprised of a blue sky as the background to a building and window railings, as well as an electricity cable going over it. What mattered here was focus and colour, and that is actually the most important in every picture for us.
Another important test is the macro mode test. The N95 did best in close-up mode, with all the other settings in automatic. With the close-up mode turned on and now with daylight mode connected, it was the N82's time to shine, while the G800 focused quite well with its sharpness setting to 100, even though its light intensity capture is ridiculous, which ruins the colour, which is essential if you're capturing flowers.
On night mode, believe it or not, the K850i did the best, with clear focus and great colour. The N82 wasn't too far behind, while the N95 surprisingly did better than the G800 in terms of light, even though the G800 has a Xenon flash and the N95 a LED flash, but the G800, had a much better focus, so it came in third place.
If you're very confused, do read part 1, part 2, and part 3 of our reviews, where everything is explained in simple detail with pictures.
So, who won? The Sony Ericsson K850i, impressively, is the best phone between all of them. The second best is the Nokia N82, followed by the Nokia N95, and lastly, the Samsung G800.
Of course this is speaking in general. Most people have specific needs, for example, I want a great camera with great software, and GPS as well, so I would choose the N82 or the N95. It is up to you what's more important, but now you know the facts!
We have 95 pictures of the Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N82, Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot, and the Samsung SGH-G800 comparing to each other, in terms of the handsets, boxes, and even accessories.
A lot of these images weren't used on our comparison review, but we had to give them good use, and nothing is better than showing them to our readers.
