The Korean representative  presented in-depth views of what the manufacturer is planning for its future, as well as an insight into SMI (Samsung Mobile Innovator) program.

Convergence is a very important issue in Samsung's agenda, but not the multimedia convergence that we are used to. Samsung wishes to have your entire household electronics connected to each other, not in the electronic way only, but also in the physical way.

The EVP spoke of the Freeplay concept, with which users can detach an HD display from a Blu-ray player, while media is being stream from anywhere in your house, such as your computer, phone, or the Blu-ray player itself.

HBC (Human body communication) was an important concept as well, and while it may look similar to the Nokia Morph concept, the focus is in a completely different direction. The concept demonstrates a watch connected wirelessly to your phone, which shares the same interface. The watch's display is flexible, it's presumably touchscreen, while the watch itself provides 4G connectivity with real-time video broadcasting, instant push-email, and bio-sensors.

The highlight for developers was Samsung Mobile Innovator. The program offers 300 free application signatures at registration, and is divided into three main areas:

  • Lab.dev – a virtual device lab to provide access to current Samsung mobile devices for remote application development and testing and verify application functionality. Users also have the benefit of reducing development costs, while increasing productivity.
  • Market.dev – business development support to give as much help as possible to accelerate all developer ideas and help registered members sell their applications and services on Samsung devices.
  • Ask.dev – exclusive and confidential technical support to help reduce the time it takes to develop new ideas and bring current applications to Samsung devices. This dedicated online support is unlimited and free to core members.

SMI is opened to anyone, while Samsung Innovation Quest is to open soon once again.

Mr Ho-Soo Lee also presented the eight reasons to innovate with Samsung:

  1. Number of Samsung devices worldwide rapidly growing
  2. Rapid Innovation/Acceleration
  3. Partnership between device makers and software creators
  4. Opportunities presented by Open OS
  5. Samsung IQ
  6. Samsung Mobile Innovator
  7. Free Symbian Signed
  8. Increasing importance of mobile device as part of a larger network of appliances
