Fourteen companies have joined the Open Handset Alliance, pledging their support to Google Android. New partners such as handset manufacturers Sony Ericsson and Asus will build their own Google Android-based phones. Sony Ericsson is also currently partnered up with the Symbian Foundation.
AKM Semiconductor, ARM, ASUSTek, Atheros Communications, Borqs, Ericsson, Garmin, Huawei Technologies, Omron Software, Softbank Mobile Corporation, Sony Ericsson, Teleca AB, Toshiba, and Vodafone, are the fourteen new companies that bring the number of Open Handset Alliance partners up to 47.
GAB reports that Garmin's Nuvifone has been intentionally delayed as the manufacturer wishes to incorporate Google Android as its operating system, an unlikely move because the phone has already been displayed at several events.
Press release after the break.
